Identification #

This species is known only from a single record of a female squirrel, recorded in 1981. The back, or dorsal region, is red, grizzled with white, and the underside is white. The patagium is a bright to glossy red. The tail is cylindrical, ranging from pale grey at the base, through vinaceous rufous, to russet, and finally to dark brown near the tip. It differs from the sympatric species Petaurista petaurista in having ear tufts at the base of the ear, one at the posterior margin and another on the dorsal part.


Distribution #

The single record of the species is from Namdapha National Park in Arunachal Pradesh, northeast India, at elevations of 100-350 m above sea level.


Habitat #

It was recorded in moist forest tracts along streams within dry deciduous forests.
