Identification #

The dorsum is overall pale, grizzled grey or brown. The ventral side has thick, pale grey underfur. Feet are covered with black hair. The tail is long and cylindrical, the same colour as the body, and may have a white tip.  Its teeth are distinct from all other flying squirrels in that they are high-crowned (hypsodont), similar to beavers.


Distribution #

The species is known to occur in India and Pakistan, and in India, it is recorded from the Kashmir region.


Habitat #

The species is recorded from forests, rocky areas (eg, inland cliffs, mountain peaks), caves and subterranean habitats between 2400 to 4800 m asl.


Diet #

They are known to feed largely on pine needles.
