Identification #

Small squirrel with black and white/cream stripes running from head to tail. It is often found in small groups.

It occurs from Northeast India (Assam, West Bengal, Mizoram, Nagaland) into Nepal, Bhutan, Cambodia, China,  Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.


Habitat #

This species is found in a variety of habitats with trees, including scrub forests, secondary forests, and degraded habitats. They also occur in association with humans, in gardens, fruit orchards, and coconut palm plantations.


Diet #

It is known to feed on fruit, vegetable matter, lichen and insects. It is often seen foraging along the trunks of trees.
